This blog focuses on rail lines in LA country that exist, are under construction or under consideration. The Californian high-speed rail project and southern CA to Vegas project will also be covered. Since most of the relevant developments in the news, rail websites and blogosphere take place on weekdays, this blog will be updated primarily Monday through Friday and occasionally on the weekends. Your comments, criticism and suggestions are encouraged. Miscellaneous stuff will also appear here.

Obama seeks high-speed rail system

April 16, 2009

President Barack Obama outlined his vision for a network of high-speed rail lines across the United States today. The federal government has identified 10 potential corridors for rail development:

* Northern New England
* New York State
* Pennsylvania
* Chicago area
* District of Columbia to Florida to the Gulf Coast
* Gulf Coast line from Texas to Alabama
* Central and southern Florida
* Texas to Oklahoma
* San Francisco to Los Angeles
* Pacific Northwest

“Imagine whisking through towns at speeds over 100 miles an hour, walking only a few steps to public transportation, and ending up just blocks from your destination,” Obama said. “It is happening right now; it’s been happening for decades. The problem is, it’s been happening elsewhere, not here.” Link to full story in The New York Times.
