Pedestrian View Of Los Angeles

This blog focuses on rail lines in LA country that exist, are under construction or under consideration. The Californian high-speed rail project and southern CA to Vegas project will also be covered. Since most of the relevant developments in the news, rail websites and blogosphere take place on weekdays, this blog will be updated primarily Monday through Friday and occasionally on the weekends. Your comments, criticism and suggestions are encouraged. Miscellaneous stuff will also appear here.

Try pedaling to work

Los Angeles County. If you've been thinking about attempting a bike commute to work, here's an incentive: The Metropolitan Transportation Authority announced that May 14 is Bike to Work Day.

If your bike commute includes a route served by MTA bus or rail lines, you and your bike can ride free that day. See www.metro.net or call 213-922-2660 for more details.

Earth Day by the sea

Redondo Beach. If you're looking for an Earth Day event to attend, you might want to consider a visit to the SEA Lab in Redondo Beach on April 25 from

10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The lab and Redondo's Department of Public Works are presenting a free event at 1021 N. Harbor Drive that offers a number of eco-friendly activities.

Visitors can turn in plastic bags for reusable tote bags, get freebies such as energy-efficient light bulbs, and see natural gas vehicles and a composting demonstration. There also will be free aquarium tours and a native plant sale for those who want to make their gardens more water-efficient.

In addition to the composting demonstration at

1 p.m., visitors will get a chance to dispose of sensitive documents or records through a shredding service.

For information, call 310-318-0686, Ext. 4153.
